Art Turnings
These are all "one of a kind" pieces. I design and execute these
individually, so I recommend that you look at the pictured pieces as examples.
I can reproduce the general idea of a piece, but the wood will dictate certain
differences.
The piece shown above, and in a different view below, is an idea
I have been exploring using myrtle burl, Oregon Walnut, and Inlace (a man-made
material that resembles turquoise). I think that it makes a particularly
striking center piece.
I particularly like the contrast between the dark luminescence
of the walnut with the almost marble like look of the myrtle burl. The shapes,
along with the Inlace, give the piece a strong Southwest influence. It is about
6 inches tall and 14 inches in diameter.
Shown above is a piece I call "Lumen". Similar to the four leg
bowl, but with three legs and an arrow motif, I think it both "points and
lights the way".
These two pieces are primarily cherry. The bowl is made by
laminating many segments and then turning. The top is turned from a piece of
spalted elm. It is about 6 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter. The goblet is
cherry with Inlace. It is about 5 inches tall and 2 inches in diameter.
The chalice on the left above is turned from juniper burl with
Inlace. Juniper does not form burls often, but when you find a chunk, it makes
some dramatic turnings. The chalice is about 4 inches tall and 3 inches in
diameter.
The candle on the right is myrtle burl with the top left rough.
The base is nogale walnut. The candle is about 6 inches tall (not including the
glass candle. That is another 8 inches) and the base is about 4 inches in
diameter.
The two turnings above are myrtle burl with a nogale walnut
base. They both have Inlace bands inlet into them. They stand about 12" tall
(not including the glass candle, that is another 6 inches) and 4 inches in
diameter at the base.
