The interior of the chest is fully lined with aromatic red
cedar. There is no better way to naturally keep moths away from your bedding or
sweaters. The aroma when you open this chest is one of the joys of having it.
The cedar is unfinished and sanded smooth. You will need to give it a very
light sanding every few years to restore the cedar smell.

One change that I did make from the original was to
install a slow closing safety top support. This holds the top open and closes
it slowly to prevent it from slamming down on little fingers. |
Shown above - Ploughing grooves for the dust panels. The tool
that I am using is an Ohio Tool Company Plough Plane, made about 1890. I use
antique handtools where ever possible for several reasons. They are quieter and
frequently faster than power tools. They offer much more design flexibility
tham power tools. And they are fun to restore and use.
