The back is book matched. In this case with figured chestnut. I
pick a piece of figured wood and resaw it for the bookmatched back.
Variations on the theme:
I used chestnut. You could use Cherry (the usual wood for
these), ash, maple, oak. Most Eastern American hardwoods would work.
I used glass in the lower door to show off the pendulum against
the wood back. A frame and panel door with a solid panel is the traditional
treatment
