The twin cod apron treatment (below)was popular in New England during the period (of course, they depended on cod fishing). This rendition is an adaptation of a Connecticut table.

You'll notice that the apron is robust. It is carved from a 3in X 3 in solid block and is mortise and tenon jointed to the legs as well as rabbeted to the stretcher above it. The beading above and below the stretcher is inset in a small groove. The stretchers are also mortise and tenoned to the legs.
